John Lamont-Black
Director: Electrokinetic
John Lamont-Black is Technical Director of Central Alliance’s Electrokinetic Division. In the early 2000s, together with colleagues at Newcastle University, he founded Electrokinetic Ltd., which involved attracting several rounds of venture capital funding. As the key technical member of the team he led the development of EKG technology and pioneered commercial applications in civil and mining engineering. He has invented novel electrokinetic materials and developed design and implementation methods including the refinement of electrokinetic slope stabilisation to be compatible with UK codes of practise and construction methods. Through this he gained extensive experience in attracting funding for commercial research projects and writing and developing patents. He has written over 50 research publications related largely to electrokinetics.
John has applied electrokinetic technologies in the UK infrastructure sectors including highway, rail and wastewater treatment. Internationally he has developed electrokinetic applications in mining waste, renewable energy and wastewater treatment in Europe, USA and Australia. In 2012 John took over as Managing Director of Electrokinetic and in 2021 and was heavily involved in the sale of Electrokinetic Ltd to the RSK, the parent Group of which Central Alliance.
Beyond work, John enjoys long distance mountain walking and has undertaken self-supported treks in many of the major mountain ranges around the world. He lives in Edinburgh and has been closely involved with the Clan Lamont Society in Argyll. At home John enjoys growing fruit and veg and anything to do with guitars.
